Vogelzang, founded in 1998 is a supplier of high quality grapes which are grown in Santa Barbara County, California. The Company’s operations are divided into two groups: grapes and grape sales, and wine production. In addition to its own Vogelzang Brand wines, the company supplies grapes pursuant to supply agreements to wineries such as Foxen, Curtis, Cold Heaven, Qupe, Bridlewood, Margerum, and others.

Vogelzang has 77 producing acres of vineyard property in the Happy Canyon region of the Santa Ynez Valley. Planted in 1998, the vineyard produces Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Mourvedre, Viognier and Grenache Noir. New blocks include Malbec, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and hillside Sauvignon Blanc.

Ideally situated in Santa Barbara County’s warmest growing region-the southeastern-most section of the Santa Ynez Valley known as Happy Canyon, the 77 acre Vogelzang Vinyard has become the perfect climate and topography for Bordeaux varietals as well as warm weather Rhones. The early morning fog burns off earlier than in any other part of the Santa Ynez Valley.  This makes for longer days of sunshine and heat.  An afternoon wind and marine fog gracefully cool the area allowing the vines to rest.

The vineyard is primarily made of gravely loam soils strewn with rock and rubble which provides the needed drainage necessary to the farming practice of water deprivation.  This deprivation, monitored closely with the use of weather stations and “bombs” assures the intensity and size desired in the fruit.  

Vineyard Managers, Jeff Newton and Ben Merz of Coastal Vineyard Care along with specialized consultants utilize the latest viticulture techniques and sustainable farming practices. New high density plantings, fine tuning of wire heights and trellis, and low but perfectly balanced yields have produced some of the finest fruit to date.  In 2005 Vogelzang Vineyard used 5% acres for its initial offering of Sauvignon Blanc and in 2007 has grown to 10% with an increase in the Sauvignon Blanc and the addition of Cabernet Sauvignon.  The remainder is sold on long term and annual contracts to the exquisite and boutique wineries of the Santa Ynez Valley. The arrangements for these sales vary from customer to customer and are negotiated directly on an individual basis.
